The English Area at Nicolás Esguerra School is a dynamic and evolving academic space committed to promoting meaningful language learning through the development of communicative competence, cultural understanding, and global citizenship. Over the years, this area has grown into a hub of innovation and collaboration, where students not only learn English but also use it as a tool to explore, reflect, and engage with the world around them.
One of the hallmarks of the English Area has been its wide variety of educational projects that encourage active participation, creativity, and critical thinking. These include cultural festivals, debate clubs, English-speaking contests, thematic exhibitions, and interdisciplinary activities that link language learning to real-world issues and local contexts. Projects such as «English Day», «Global Voices», and «My Culture, Your Culture» have created opportunities for students to showcase their language skills while fostering dialogue and appreciation for diverse perspectives.
A key focus of the English Area has been the integration of critical intercultural awareness into the curriculum. Teachers encourage students to analyze cultural narratives, challenge stereotypes, and understand the complexity of identity in a globalized world. Through the study of literature, media, and current events, learners are guided to see English not just as a subject, but as a bridge to connect with other cultures and reflect on their own.
As a result of this comprehensive and reflective approach, students have significantly improved their language proficiency, particularly in areas such as speaking, listening, and argumentative writing. More importantly, they have developed the skills to engage in respectful and informed intercultural dialogue—an essential competence for the 21st century.
In sum, the English Area at Nicolás Esguerra School continues to be a transformative space that prepares students to use English as a tool for communication, understanding, and social change.
